Statement of Faith

Buen Café is committed to the following foundational beliefs of the Christian Faith. 

THE ONE TRUE GOD - We believe there is only one true God who eternally exists in three persons - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is unchanging in His being and character. God is holy, infinite, just, righteous, and good in who He is and all His ways. He is the Creator and Lord of all things. HUMANITY AND SIN - We believe that man and woman were both created in the image of God, equal in dignity and worth, to bring glory to God in all of life. God united Adam and Eve in the sacred covenant of marriage, therefore we believe that marriage is instituted for one man and one woman. Man sinned against God's commands and believed the lie of Satan and took from the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. The Fall into sin has brought death into all of creation. THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST - We believe Jesus Christ is God, the second person of the Trinity. He is the Word who existed eternally and everything exists by Him and for Him. Jesus was supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, lived a perfect, obedient, and sinless life, fulfilling the righteous requirements of God’s law and became the perfect Redeemer for His people. He died on the cross to take the place of sinners for the punishment of sin, was buried and raised on the third day, was taken up to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, praying on behalf of believers, and will return bodily to judge the living and the dead. THE HOLY SPIRIT - We believe The Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Trinity, existing eternally and involved in creation. The Holy Spirit inspired the Scriptures, breathes new life into sinners making them a new creation in Christ and grows the Believer into the likeness of Jesus. The Spirit gives various gifts to the church for building up the body in love and for building the church into a dwelling place for God. THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE - We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God without error. God is the author of all the Holy Scriptures in which there are 66 books that are contained in both the Old and New Testaments. God used human prophets and authors who were divinely guided by the Holy Spirit to write the Bible. God’s word is authoritative for all of life and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and for training in righteousness. ISAIAH 40:8,1 THESSALONIANS 2:13, 2 TIMOTHY 3:16, 2 PETER 1:20-21

THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST - We believe that salvation was accomplished by the grace of God through the finished work of Jesus Christ in his life, death, burial and resurrection. God, by His grace, gives new life to sinners, enabling them to repent and put their faith in Christ. There is no salvation apart from Jesus Christ, for there is no other name given under heaven by which we must be saved. Salvation is of the Lord and once a person is saved he/she has been fully forgiven, justified, declared righteous and sealed with the promised Holy Spirit and awaits their glorification when faith becomes sight. 1 CORINTHIANS 15:3-4, EPHESIANS 1:7,13-14, ACTS 4:12, ROMANS 5:1, EPHESIANS 2:8-9, TITUS 3:7, REVELATION 7:10

CHURCH - We believe the church is the Bride of Christ that Jesus purchased with His own blood on the cross in order to redeem a people for Himself. The church is the body of Christ, made up of all who have repented of their sin and put their faith and hope in Jesus for their salvation. It is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. There is one true church that is made up of all believers from all time, both a heavenly assembly and local gatherings spread throughout the world. The church proclaims and obeys the word of God and is commissioned to go into all the world making disciples of Jesus Christ. MATTHEW 28:19-20, JOHN 14:21, ACTS 20:21, 1 CORINTHIANS 1:2, GALATIANS 3:13, EPHESIANS 1:22-23, 2:20, 4:4, 5:25-27

HEAVEN AND HELL - We believe Hell is a place for those who do not repent and believe in Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins. There they will receive eternal judgement and punishment, shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His might. Heaven is a place of eternal blessing and reward for those who are in Christ. When believers die, they will immediately be in the presence of God. The promise of the gospel is that in Heaven God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away and all things will be made new. MATTHEW 25:46, ROMANS 2:6-8, 2 CORINTHIANS 5:8, 2 THESSALONIANS 1:9, REVELATION 20:10, 21:1-5
